Nancy smiled her thanks and hurried to the office to see if she could leave early. It was a good thing Dr. Harris knew Jake and Carol, because he gave his approval without an argument. Fifteen minutes later, Nancy was in her car. She stopped by Jean's office to pick her up before they headed for the hospital.

"This is exciting," Jean said. "There hasn't been a baby around since Charlie was born. We're going to be aunts again."

"Well, not exactly. Honorary aunts, maybe."

"Oh, pooh. Jake and Carol are family. That makes us aunts."

"If you say so." Nancy hit the gas once they were on the highway. They passed a patrol car when she was doing ten miles over the limit, but she relaxed when she saw it was Tommy. He only waved and smiled as they flew by.

They made it to the hospital in record time, beating Carol and Jake by a good twenty minutes.

"Where have y'all been?" she asked Megan as they wheeled Carol through the doors to the labor and delivery check in. "We were worried."

"Hey, don't look at me. I was ready to go as soon as Logan called. Carol was the one who was dawdling. She wasn't even packed yet."

"Seriously? I thought she'd be ready weeks ahead of time." Nancy shook her head. "She and I even talked about this."

Megan shrugged. "This is weeks ahead of time. The babies aren't due for another three weeks."

"True." They sat in the waiting room. Logan came in after parking the truck and proceeded to pace from one end of the room to the other.

"Looks like big brother might be a little worried," Jean said.

"Definitely." Megan lowered her voice. "I've never seen him like this."

"I have," Nancy said.

Megan looked surprised. "Really? When?"

"When you were in labor with Charlie. He pretty much terrorized the whole labor and delivery department until he knew you were both safe."

"That idiot." Megan chuckled. "He's never going to outgrow his overprotective streak, is he?"

"Nope. And I feel sorry for the young man who wants to marry his Katie. The boy will need an iron will and a strong backbone." Nancy put a hand on Megan's arm. "You don't know how lucky you are."

Megan covered Nancy's hand with her own. "Yeah, I do. I realize it every day when I wake up beside him and every time I see him with the kids. He's a good man."

He is that, Nancy thought to herself. And she realized she'd been measuring Cooper's worth against Logan and how he took care of Megan and the kids. Logan was solid, steady. Protective. But Cooper wasn't Logan. He had his own good qualities, though solid and steady weren't really his strong points. He was a risk-taker, impulsive, passionate.

And really, those weren't necessarily bad qualities, were they?
